Bankruptcy is one of the biggest taboos for certain age groups of Britons, it has been claimed.
The Sun states that two distinct groups cited bankruptcy as the most shameful taboo, out of a list of four choices.
Both 18 to 24-years olds and 35 to 44-year-olds said that they viewed bankruptcy as more embarrassing than being caught taking drugs or getting divorced.
According to the publication, "one of the simplest ways of guarding against … increasing levels of debt and bankruptcy is to keep tabs on your credit report".
Regularly checking a credit card can serve as a "wake-up call" to people who spend too much, as well as highlighting where savings can be made, it adds.
Debt consolidation is another debt management method the news provider lists as an option for those who wish to avoid bankruptcy.
Some 330 people become insolvent every day in Britain, according to Credit Action.
