Credit card debt consolidation `could benefit consumers`

28/02/2007

People who find themselves struggling to get out of debt may benefit from credit card consolidation loans, according to an online credit card guide.

Credit card debt consolidation could help consumers lower their monthly payments, pay off existing debts and prevent new debts from accumulating, Credit Cards GB says.

Problems with credit card debt may arise because people don`t realise how easy it is to get into debt quickly, the company claims.

Although acknowledging that credit card debt consolidation "may not be the ideal solution to the problem", the company says it "can help you to regain your financial freedom" and avoid such pitfalls as being forced to declare bankruptcy.

Debt consolidation is a process in which a consumer takes out a loan or other credit agreement in order to pay off two or more existing debts.

The Office of Fair Trading recommends that consumers view debt consolidation as a way of paying off debt rather than a way to borrow more.
