Wedding planners `rack up credit card debt`

15/06/2007

Many people planning their weddings will find themselves left with credit card debt after the big day is over, according to new research.

A study by price comparison website moneysupermarket.com found that 41 per cent of couples getting married plan to use credit cards to pay for the ceremony, Channel 4 news reports.

Meanwhile, another 15 per cent plan to take out a loan to fund their coming nuptials, the figures indicate.

The data reveals that people will borrow almost £8,500 for their wedding, though nearly 25 per cent anticipate borrowing between £10,000 and £15,000.

And southern couples will borrow more than their northern counterparts, the survey states, with 15 per cent of those in southern counties requiring £20,000 for their weddings, compared to less than five percent of northerners who plan to use that amount.

The cost of the average wedding in the UK is £11,000, according to WeddingGuideUK.
