Long-term energy price rise predicted
23/02/2009
Gas prices could be pushed up in the long term by uncertainties about supply, according to one analyst.
According to the BBC, Ian Parrett of energy consultancy Inenco said that once the economy starts to recover, prices may rise again.
However, the BBC does add that other experts have suggested another round of price cuts could be on its way this autumn, as wholesale prices fall.
The news follows recent announcements from several energy providers regarding imminent price cuts, which should relieve the pressure on billpayers who have experienced sharp price rises over the past year.
A spokesperson for Debt Advisers Direct said: "It`s become very difficult to predict what will happen with energy prices, and this in itself is a reason for billpayers to exercise caution. People need to be prepared for any sudden price rises, to avoid the risk of debt problems in the future."
