By taking "simple steps", many consumers can reduce the risk of becoming the victim of credit card fraud, an industry expert has suggested.
Those committing fraud - in shops or online - often look for an "easy target", so consumer across the UK should make sure that they are not just that, life assistance company CPP stated.
In a bid to avoid having to consult professional debt advice in the future, consumers should make sure they only go on safe websites and never give over any sensitive information, Danny Harrison, a security expert at CPP, said.
Mr Harrison added: "When giving over your information, you need to know that those people are who they say they are and that they can be trusted. Simple steps like these can certainly help reduce the risk."
Research from CPP found that 33 per cent of Londoners have become victims of fraud after their details were obtained by fraudsters over the internet.
