Retirement thoughts `being push to back of minds`

13/02/2008

People across the UK have an ambivalent attitude about saving for retirement, an industry expert has claimed.

According to the Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS), consumers are failing to save for their retirement because they do not want to think about their later years.

However, many people throughout the country may need professional debt advice in the future if they do not start saving for retirement at an early age, Des Hamilton, technical director of TPAS, said.

Mr Hamilton added: "There`s an ambivalence about it - the financial aspect of being able to fend and provide for yourself in retirement is very off-putting because it means deferring expenditure today."

Sky News reported in January that one in three Britons are failing to put money aside for their pension fund.
