The Ministry of Justice has released new statistics in mortgage and landlord possession actions in England and Wales.
In the second quarter of this year, a two per cent rise in landlord possession claims was recorded, compared with the same period last year, using accelerated and standard procedures on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Also on a seasonally adjusted basis, a 17 per cent rise in mortgage possession claims was recorded between the second quarter of 2007 and the same period this year. A 24 per cent rise was recorded for mortgage possession orders in the same period.
However, the ministry highlights the fact that many of these orders are not enforced, meaning the figures are not an accurate reflection of the true number of repossessions.
People worried about repossession and other debts may find debt counselling helpful. There are debt solutions available, for example managed bank accounts and consolidation loans, that can help manage outgoings.
