First signs of debt problems

Debt problems have a nasty habit of creeping up on you: The first sign that things are beginning to go wrong is when you regularly have more money going out than money coming in and the repayments you’re making on credit cards, store cards, loans and overdrafts are, at best, only paying towards the interest accumulated and not tackling the debt itself.

You’ll probably find that you are using credit for things that you used to pay cash for, which is, in turn, worsening the situation and you may be in arrears on priority debts such as household bills and facing bank charges for unpaid cheques or direct debits. The worst thing you can do is to ignore your debt problems and hope they will just go away as this will only make the situation worse.
