Get the right debt advice and become debt-free sooner
If you`re having problems with your debts, getting debt advice is important - and the sooner you talk to someone, the better.
One problem with debt is that, left unpaid, it tends to grow. When you`re keeping on top of your debts, your repayments will more than cover the interest you`re charged - but as soon as you start missing payments, that interest can really begin to add up (to say nothing of the damage this can do to your credit rating, and the risk of your creditors taking legal action against you).
Over time, your debts could begin to `snowball` - you`ll be charged interest on what you owe, and then you`ll be charged more interest on your (larger) balance the next month, and so on. In time, your debts could become completely unmanageable - unless you do something about it.
How can a debt adviser help me?
It`s a debt adviser`s job to help you find the best way of getting out of debt. When you first speak to your debt adviser, they`ll need to know a few things about you, such as how much you owe, how many lenders you owe money to, and how much you can actually afford to pay each month.
This information will give your debt adviser a good picture of your situation so they can advise you on the best way to improve your situation.
In less serious cases, they may tell you that all you need is a little help with your budgeting. A lot of people don`t plan out their finances properly at the start of each month, and can find themselves falling short before the end of the month. A well-planned budget can help to avoid this.
Similarly, your debt adviser might be able to help you find areas in which you can cut back to make more room for your debts.
However, if your situation is more serious and budgeting more effectively won`t be enough to really help you, your debt adviser may recommend a debt solution. There are debt solutions to help with all kinds of situations - even if your debts are completely unmanageable, your debt adviser may be able to recommend a way of clearing them.
