How does debt management work?
Talk to us and we'll talk to your lenders.
Tell us about your financial situation so we can draw up a repayment plan that your lenders can agree to.
In most cases, they'll consider accepting lower payments if it's the best way for you to repay the money you owe. They may also agree to reduce or freeze interest and charges, so you can focus on paying off your unsecured debt itself.
Lenders don't have to accept any changes to your repayment terms, so this is an area where experience really counts. As part of the Think Money Group, we're one of the UK's largest and longest-established debt management companies. We've spent over fifteen years negotiating with lenders: we know how they like to work, and what kind of changes they're likely to agree to.
Key facts about our fees and services
After discussing your situation with our expert advisers, you may be advised to enter a debt solution.
If you decide to enter a solution with us, there will be fees involved. However, at Debt Advisers Direct we strive to provide our customers with the very best service at competitive rates. For more information on our fees, please click here.
Can I cancel the agreement? Remember, you're under no obligation to enter a solution with us - but if you do, and you change your mind, you've got the right to cancel your agreement with us at any time during the first two weeks of its term.
My credit rating - how will it be affected? Whilst you're on a Debt Management Plan, your credit rating will be affected in the short term. Depending on the agreement, it may also be affected in the medium to long term.
We can help even if you are:
Unable to keep up with your repayments
We'll negotiate with your lenders, asking them to accept lower monthly payments. We'll show them exactly what you can afford once you've accounted for all your essential expenses (mortgage/rent, utility bills, petrol, etc.).
Return to topFalling behind on your mortgage / rent
We'll negotiate with your mortgage lender / landlord too. If there's talk of legal action, we can even handle the court paperwork for you and find you a solicitor.
Plus: debt management works by giving you a tailored repayment plan, helping you pay off unsecured debts whilst leaving enough money each month to afford essential expenses. In other words, you won't need to 'eat into' your mortgage / rent money to pay your credit card bills.
Return to topWatching your debts get bigger?
You want your repayments to go towards reducing the debt itself. That's why we ask lenders to freeze / reduce interest and charges. They don't have to agree, but after fifteen years, we've built up good working relationships with lenders throughout the country. We're in a good position to negotiate.
Return to topWorried about letters and phone calls
We'll handle letters and phone calls, asking your lenders to contact us, not you. If you do receive any letters, simply forward them to us in the free envelopes we'll provide. If they phone you, just ask them to call us.
Once you're on our debt management plan, you'll have just one person to deal with - your own Personal Finance Manager, who'll be there to help with your finances, answer your questions and make any necessary adjustments to your plan, so it remains right for you if your situation changes.
